This article from the Chicago Tribune really interests me because it discusses the psychology that contributes to obesity. This article by Jeremy Manier, Patricia Callahan and Delroy Alexander explains that junk food, especially the Oreo, may have some qualities that are similar to that of narcotics. These junk foods make the mind feel happy and cause numerous cravings. I think this article is interesting because, as a lover of junk food, I am very interested as to why I cannot stay away from it. Many people cannot resist junk food because of genetics, environment, or mental issues. In the article, Jeffrey Friedman says, "The notion that there might be a biological system that evades our conscious control is not attractive to a lot of people." This quote states that sometimes people cannot have self control when it comes to certain foods because of biological or psychological reasons. This article discusses the direct causes of obesity, which is becoming ever more prevalent in the United States. |
