Purdue University was founded in 1869. It is named after John Purdue, who contributed a great deal of money to the school. Purdue is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. There are about 30,000 undergraduate students that attend Purdue. Purdue is known for its excellent engineering program, and many students there choose engineering as their major. However, its business school is becoming ever more successful, and Purdue is also offering more major choices every year.
Sports are a very important part of life at Purdue. The school is a member of the Big Ten Conference. The most involved sport at the school is the men's football team. The coach is Joe Tiller. The team plays in Ross Ade Stadium. Much of the student body attends tailgates and games decked out in their fan apparel. Purdue's mascot is Purdue Pete. Though football is a very big deal at Purdue, other popular sports are both men's and women's basketball, soccer, and volleyball. Purdue also has a number of intramural and club sports in which many students are involved.
